Counter-Terrorism: Bangladesh Lauds Efforts of Nigerian Armed Forces in Combating Boko Haram

The Government of Bangladesh has lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces in effectively checking the activities of terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The statement said that the commendation was conveyed by a Bangladesh Defence delegation on a courtesy visit to the Defence Headquarters.
It said that the leader of the delegation on a geo-study tour of Nigeria, Rear Adm. Anwarul Islam, conveyed his country’s commendation for the successes recorded by the Nigerian military.
It said that Bangladesh expressed willingness to partner Nigeria in replicating its military’s counter-insurgency strategy in addressing her domestic challenges.
“Bangladesh has lauded the success of the Nigerian military to overcome insurgency and expressed willingness to adopt the Nigerian Armed Forces winning strategy to combat insurgency and criminalities in their country,” it said.
The statement quoted Islam as saying that the dramatic way in which the Nigerian military contained the erstwhile deadly Boko Haram within a short period was worthy of commendation.
It noted that the Nigerian armed forces were known for their contributions to peace support operations worldwide and had contributed tremendously to world and regional peace.
It said that Bangladesh had a lot to learn from the Nigerian military and lauded the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin for his leadership direction.
It said that their country looked forward to sustaining a cordial military relation with Nigeria.
The statement said that the CDS, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans at the Defence Headquarters, Air Vice-Marshal Bashir Saidu, assured the team of the Nigeria’s willingness to partner Bangladesh on counter-insurgency.
The statement said the team held talks with Nigerian defence officials on the operations of the Multinational Joint Task Force and “Operation LAFIYA DOLE”.
